A look back at Day 10 of the 2011 WSOP

Thursday at the 2011 World Series of Poker saw a number of tournaments in action, and by the end of the night two more WSOP bracelets had been handed out: One in the Omaha 8 or Better Championship and one on the $1,500 NLHE Triple Chance event.

Event #11: $10k Omaha 8 or better Championship, Day 4

Three players returned to the Rio poker tables on Thursday to determine the champion of the $10k Omaha 8 or better Championship and when the dust settled it was Viacheslav Zhukov, a 22 year-old Russian player, who would walk away with the top prize, as well as his first WSOP bracelet.

1.       Viacheslav Zhukov — $465,216

2.       George Lind III — $287,554

3.       Steve Billirakis — $214,697

Event #12: $1,500 Triple Chance No Limit Holdem, Day 3

In the Triple Chance No Limit Holdem tournament we encountered our first feel-good story of the 2011 WSOP when cancer survivor David Diaz won his first WSOP bracelet. Diaz was diagnosed with cancer at 4 years-old, a battle that must make any troubles at the poker tables seem paltry by comparison.

1.       David Diaz - $352,808

2.       Anders Meli - $218,183

3.       Andrea Dato - $138,044

4.       Bill Chen - $100,200

5.       Corey Hastings - $73,915

6.       Richard Trigg - $55,355

7.       Justin Sternberg - $42,059

8.       Nick Rampone - $32,381

9.       Matthew Henson - $25,253

10.   Steven Watts - $19,953

Event #13: $1,500 No Limit Holdem Shootout, Day 2

With two rounds of the $1,500 Shootout tournament complete the 16 remaining players will now square off in a 16 player tournament for the title. Each player will start with 450,000 chips in what amounts to a 2-table S&G tournament.

Event #14: $3,000 Limit Holdem, Day 2

8.       Brandon Demes - 128,000

9.       Leo Labbe - 124,500

Event #15: $1,500 Pot Limit Holdem, Day 1

A total of 765 players registered for the $1,500 Pot Limit Holdem tournament that began on Thursday, and by the end of the night only 88 players remained.

Event #16: $10k No Limit 2-7 Lowball Championship, Day 1

A huge increase in attendance was the big story of the $10k No Limit 2-7 Lowball Championship. Last year 101 players registered for the tournament, while this year 126 players were willing to part with the $10k entry-fee -perhaps spurred on by Matt Perrins win in the $1,500 2-7 tournament when his only experience with the format was a YouTube tutorial video!
