With only three tournaments in action you would have expected the WSOP to have had a fairly low-key day on Sunday, but with a man at the final table of the Ladies Championship, the second largest preliminary event field in the history of the WSOP, and the $50k Players Championship making up those three tournaments there was plenty of excitement at the Rio on the 4th of July weekend.
Event #53: $1,000 No Limit Holdem Ladies Championship, Day 3
Well Jonathan Epstein has the dubious distinction of being the only man to make the WSOP Ladies Championship final table -maybe put him alongside Marsha Waggoner in the record books???-but that’s where his run ended as he was eliminated by eventual champion Marsha Wolak in 9th place to the applause of the other players, the rail, and tournament officials.
1. Marsha Wolak - $192,344
2. Karina Jett - $119,010
3. Carol Tomlinson - $74,459
4. Valerie McColligan - $54,045
5. Peg Ledman - $39,897
6. Katherine Stahl - $29,909

Event #54: $1,000 No Limit Holdem, Day 1b
After a typical Day 1a turnout nobody was expecting what happened on Sunday when 2,644 players registered for the tournament making this the second largest $1k NLHE tournament in WSOP history -trailing only the initial Stimulus Special tournament back in 2009.
Here is a look at the top 10 chip counts from the two Day 1 flights:

Heading the field at this point is the current 2011 WSOP Player of the Year leader Ben Lamb, who is looking to cement his place as one of the best tournament poker players in the world with his 2011 WSOP run, which already includes a first and second place finish.
