A look back at Day 36 of the 2011 WSOP: Main Event nears as prelims wind down

All 57 preliminary tournaments at the 2011 World Series of Poker are now underway, leaving the Main Event as the only tournament to be played. On Tuesday the final table was reached in Event #54, a $1k NLHE tournament, as well as in the $50k Players Championship.
Event #54: $1,000 No Limit Holdem, Day 3
Team PokerStars Pro Max Lykov went on a tear Tuesday and will headline the final table of Event #54 as he takes a commanding chip-lead into the final table.

Event #55: $50,000 Players Championship, Day 4
With the final tabled set in the Players Championship the remaining players will no longer be tested in their knowledge of eight different games as the tournament will now switch to No Limit Holdem exclusively.
With three 2011 WSOP bracelet winners still alive there is a decent possibility that we might just end up with our first double bracelet winner of 2011 -or perhaps Phil Hellmuth will win his 12th!

A huge field showed up for Event #56 as poker players realized their chances of winning a bracelet at the 2011 WSOP were almost at an end. In all 3,389 players registered for the tournament with 465 making it through to Day 2, here is a look at the top 10:

With attendance up almost 25% from last year don’t be surprised if the 2012 WSOP contains one or two more PLO8 tournaments -the $1,500 buy-in version also saw a marked attendance increase. 189 of the original 352 entrants still remain heading into Day 2:
