We are almost a week into the 2011 World Series of Poker now and the action was fast and furious on Sunday with three bracelets being awarded, and two other tournaments in action.
Event #4: $5,000 No Limit Holdem, Day 4 (added)
Four players returned to the Rio on Sunday to finish the $5k NLHE tournament, and it was poker pro Allen Bari who was in firm command of the tournament holding roughly 75% of the chips in play. Bari would be tested during the four-handed match but was never put to the test and basically cruised to victory.
1. Allen Bari — $874,116
2. Maria Ho — $540,020
3. Sean LeFort — $348,128
4. Nicholas Blumenthal — $255,028
5. Thomas Ross — $189,574
6. Ricky Fohrenbach — $142,821
7. Jesse Chinni — $108,914
8. Mikhail Lakhitov — $84,033
9. Farzad Bonyadi — $65,535
Event #6: $1,500 Limit Holdem, Day 3
The second bracelet that was awarded on Sunday was in the Limit Holdem tournament where new Las Vegas resident Harrison Wilder outlasted the field including two-time bracelet winner Scott Clements and defending champion Matt Matros to win his first WSOP bracelet.
1. Harrison Wilder - $205,065
2. Thomas Jamieson - $126,654
3. John Myung - $89,840
4. Willliam Davis - $64,625
5. Matthew Elsby - $47,138
6. Sean Nguyen - $34,864
7. Craig Laben - $26,134
8. Mitch Schock - $19,856
9. Scott Clements - $15,281
Event #7: $10,000 Pot Limit Holdem Championship, Day 3
The third bracelet awarded on Sunday was one I expected to fall prey to the Hard-Stop rule, but the players managed to finish the event before 10 levels had been played. In the end it was Amir Lehovat who would come out victorious as a number of big name Poker Pros fell by the wayside.
1. Amir Lehavot — $573,456
2. Jarred Solomon — $354,460
3. Sam Stein — $264,651
4. Stephen Chidwick — $198,927
5. Tommy Vinas — $150,453
6. Nicolas Levi — $114,525
7. Eric Cloutier — $87,702
8. McLean Karr — $67,596
9. Michael Benvenuti — $52,406
Notable eliminations on Day 3 included Mike Matusow, Nenad Medic, Toby Lewis, Robert Mizrachi, and Jennifer Tilly.
Event 8: $1,000 No Limit Holdem, Day 1b
Just over 2,000 players registered on Day 1b (2,062 to be exact) of the 41k NLHE tournament which left the total field just slightly behind of last year’s when added to the 2,116 players that registered on Day 1a. While a slight disappointment considering Black Friday hasn’t affected other events I’m sure WSOP officials and the poker world in general is happy with the total number of entrants.
A total of 624 players (312 from each day) will reconvene at the Rio on Monday for Day 2 of the tournament.
Event #9: $1,500 2-7 Lowball, Day 2
The 2-7 Lowball tournament has reached the final table already -so there should be no worries about the Hard-Stop rule coming into effect on Monday. Here is a look at the chip counts of the remaining seven players:
1. Matt Perrins — 293,000
2. Bernard Lee — 265,000
3. Chris Bjorin — 197,500
4. Thomas Fuller — 168,000
5. Josh Brikis — 119,000
6. Robin Rightmire — 107,000
7. Jason Mercier — 89,000
