Funny moments in the Girah poker scandal thread
In every tragedy there is always some shreds of comedy that shine through the cracks, and this is definitely the case with the ongoing Jose “Girah” Macedo scamming investigation that is still unraveling after 5-days on 2+2.In between all of the hand histories and chat logs, the conjecture and proven facts, and the admissions of guilt and denials, there have been a few hidden gems of humor that have come to light; some intentionally and some unintentionally.
In this article I’m going to take a look at four of the funnier lines and revelations from the mammoth thread on 2+2 -and keep in mind that I was following the “high-class” HSNL version and not the NVG version!
- F. Scott Qureshi and Haseeb Kerouac
When these two monikers first appeared in the thread they were so seamlessly used as to be overlooked. All I can say is thank goodness they were not overlooked!
The first was in response to the mention by Haseeb -which he credited to Jose-that his writing reminded the Portuguese Poker Prodigy of F. Scott Fitzgerald!
The second moniker came about after Qureshi announced his plans to backpack through Europe, letting the wind take him to faraway places unknown.
- Who said it, F. Scott Fitzgerald or Haseeb Qureshi offshoot thread
Another take on Haseeb Qureshi’s writing style and his (or Girah’s) comparison to F. Scott Fitzgerald was FoxwoodsFiend’s offshoot thread titled: Name That Quote: Haseeb Qureshi or F. Scott Fitzgerald? Where 16 literary quotes are given, and you the player must determine f it was Haseeb or F. Scott Fitzgerald who wrote it! -I went 15 out of 16 fwiw-
- Daniel Cates absolute disregard for protecting his money
Ok, either Cates is just playing dumb, or he has no interest in protecting his money. Numerous times in his interview, when asked about staking “Girah” $100k he would respond with, “I don’t look into that stuff”, or “I don’t know, we didn’t discuss that”! This was his answer to questions like, do you think it’s weird that “Girah” would win playing mid-stakes and then lose his shirt playing high-stakes? Or, what were the terms of the stake?
- People diagnosing Dan Cates with Autism
Although I can’t say I blame them after listening to Cates interviews and his responses to questions on the forum, a number of people thought Cates’ interviews so bizarre that they started posting links to Autism articles, and even professional began chiming in on the likelihood that Cates may have some form of Autism! Talk about flubbing an interview!
