Main Event
On the final day of the EPT London tournament series the winner of the Main event and the High-Roller tournament were set to be crowned, and thanks to Benny Spindler and Phillip Gruissem Germany walked away with a clean sweep of the two biggest EPT London titles.
Spindler had been amongst the chip-leaders in the Main Event from Day 2 onward, and managed to cruise through a tough final table that included such notable names as US Poker Pros Kevin Iacofano and Steve O’Dwyer, as well as Team PokerStars Pro Juan Manuel Pastor.
In the end the heads-up battle would be between Spindler and O’Dwyer, and Spindler’s good run would continue when he faced an all-in bet from O’Dwyer while holding A/K; O’Dwyer had the further misfortune of flipping over K/J, and was eliminated when the board bricked out.
High-Roller Tournament
Meanwhile, the EPT London High-Roller tournament was taking place, and in the end the tournament may go down as the moment we realized that Phillip Gruissem was amongst the best poker players in the world. Gruissem captured his second straight EPT High-Roller title, having won the EPT Barcelona High-Roller title in August, not to mention a very deep run in the WSOP Main Event in July, where he eventually finished in 28th place.
Gruissem outlasted a very tough final table that included the likes of Olivier Busquet, Sam Trickett, and Michael Tureniec– as well as having to negotiate three separate deals; two were accepted and one was rejected– to capture the title, and send his 2011 earnings to nearly $1.4 million!
