On Sunday, Poker Stars set a record breaking no limit hold’em contest making them the home of the largest tournament in history. An amazing 35,000 entrants put up the $10+$1 buy in to be a part of the historical record breaking event which was part of Poker Stars‘ World Record Weekend. To sweeten the deal, Poker Stars offered up a $150,000 overlay as a reward to its always loyal players.
From the beginning, the question of whether the record would be broken was never asked. Poker Stars had opened registration weeks ago and every seat had sold out long before the action began. The World Record atmosphere was infectious and increased traffic all across the site, giving Poker Stars the ability to claim a high of 250,540 players who occupied 33,582 tables which in turn, set another record for the most players simultaneously logged on at one time.
Despite many players’ disappointment at not being able to participate in the historic tournament, it didn’t stop them from flooding other tournaments and joining cash games. The huge increase in traffic caused a reported slight lag in the site and other little hiccups that went on throughout the night though Poker Stars stayed on top of the issues as they surfaced.
In another fete, the incredible size of the field didn’t translate into a long and drawn out event. The players reached the money in less than three hours of furious play. A total of 80 players were eliminated during hand for hand play, launching the race towards the final table. Below are the final table results:
1. stan34powa — $30,000
2. meiky777 — $20,000
