The race for the top spots of Card Player’s Online Player of the Year continues to tighten up and is a neck and neck race. The top five players are only a mere 146 points apart from top to bottom and the below that, its an even tighter race with plenty of players just waiting for their opportunity to move their way up. For the first time this year, a player has managed to hold onto the number one spot on the leader board for more than a week. Scott "stpauli111" Hall didn’t add even one point to his total but the players behind him continued to fall short, narrowing his lead to a measly 18 points.
Despite logic, it isn’t one of the previous top 10 players who is gunning for his spot. Tommy "ship hamilton" Nguyen jumped all the way to the number 2 spot by winning the Sunday Warmup, banking $105,768. Nguyen now has three final tables this year under his belt and has made well over $150,000 in total. Also waiting in the wings in third place is Matt "cwp394" Ross thanks to his final table placements earlier this year. This week, he managed to bubble the final table of the $50,000 guarantee on Poker Stars, adding to his points total.
Though Mohsin "chicagocards1" Charania won the $100,000 Deep Stack on Ultimate Bet this week for $25,000, he still dropped back one spot in the rankings to fourth place. His win gave him 240 points, putting him a slim 64 points behind the leader. "BigDennys" was just one of the big Sunday tournament winners until this week when he also conquered the $100,000 guarantee on Poker Stars for $20,866. The huge 360 points he earned was enough to bump him into fifth place in the rankings.
