As more and more poker forums continue to pop-up across the Internet, I’ve decided to write a brief review of three of the top online poker forums, and cite some of the aspects that allow these forums to dominate their competition.
One thing to keep in mind is this: You can join many poker forums, and browse them all! Too many players think they need to be 100% to the first forum they join, which is utter nonsense: Take advantage of every online poker forum, you’ll be amazed at the different possibilities each has to offer.
2+2
Twoplustwo.com is the Internet Poker’s version of the New York Yankees. As online poker’s largest poker forum community, 2+2 boasts the most threads and posts anywhere on the Internet.
Broken down into numerous categories, 2+2 is one of the few places where poker players can have a diverse discussion on just about any form of poker, or aspect of the game.
Another advantage of 2+2 is the quantity of professional players who inhabit the forum; starting with the sites laundry-list of published poker authors.
The size of the forum does have a couple of drawbacks: First off, it is difficult to keep up with all the posts and threads that you are interested in. Sometimes the posts come faster than you can read them! Secondly, the community is so large that the forum is very ‘clicky’, with certain groups of players utterly dismissing any unknown poster’s opinion.
Cardschat
Cardschat.com is the next step down from 2+2: The Cardschat poker forum offers a strong member base, a good diversity of topics, and good advice from winning players. Cardschat can’t cite the top players in the business like 2+2, but the key members are very solid players.
I find Cardschat to be a well run poker forum that focuses on keeping the discussions on track; penalizes members for personal attacks; and does an excellent job of keeping spam off the site. All-in-all, Cardschat is a great forum to join and learn from.
Pocket Fives
Pocketfives.com is another well travelled poker forum, with numerous topics and solid analysis from top players. For whatever reason, Pocket Fives seems to always have the best gossip (which often turns out to be correct) in the poker community. This makes the forum a great place to get caught up on the latest breaking news in the poker world.
Other forums
Another area of the online poker forum market is the smaller more community-based forums. The input/advice tends to be less detailed and sporadic, but poker players do come to appreciate the community feel of these smaller forums, such as pokerforums.org.
There are also the forums on pay sites, such as cardrunners.com. These forums have less traffic due to the cost of membership, but the advice is monumentally better, especially when the top poker coaches are involved. These forums are using the quality over quantity model, and it seems to be working for them.
