Top 3 comical things poker players think will increase their profit
We see this in just about every sport, where people looking for an edge will buy a magnetized bracelet, drink special triple-purified water, or practice with an odd training implement, and unfortunately poker players are no different. It always makes me laugh when people explain to me how doing this thing or that thing will suddenly change their fortunes at the poker tables, so with that in mind I have decided to compile a list of the top 3 things poker players do in the name of increased profits!
- Buy a bigger monitor
Yes the problem is you are playing on a 24″ monitor and not the latest state of the art 27″ monitor! Let’s be realistic here, the size of your monitor can help you play more tables, and make your time at the online poker tables a little more comfortable, but it’s not going to turn you into a world-beater. And unless you are currently using one of those oversized monitors from your first computer you purchased back in the early 90’s -you know the ones encased in white plastic-chances are your monitor is just fine.
In fact, most people who buy a $300+ monitor (or even better dual monitors) are simply building an impressive computer, since only the highest-volume multi-tablers need such an accessory. If you’re not a winning player chances are the problem is not the size of your monitor, and you’d be better off spending the $300+ on a poker training site or some other study aids.
- Play more tables
Ah yes, nothing says playing solid poker more than decreasing your focus even further! While some players like ‘nanonoko’ and ‘ElkY’ are able to play 16-24 tables at a time this doesn’t mean it’s a good idea for you to try. In fact, most people who start adding tables in an effort to boost their win-rate tend to start losing money.
When you are spewing money at the poker tables the worst thing you can do is spread your focus even thinner. Focus on the basics by playing one table, and then when you are a winning player start gradually adding tables one-by-one.
- Switch to a new online Poker Room
Yup, it was the GUI and interface at PokerStars that caused you to drop 20 buy-ins in less than a week, so head on over to Full Tilt Poker I’m sure you’ll do much better over there! If there were some mythical Poker Room out there with loose passive calling stations at every table don’t you think this is where all the sharks would be playing?
For the most part, poker rooms are poker rooms, and the only real reasons to switch sites would be over game selection, a deposit bonus, or a rakeback deal.
Hopefully this article gave you a little food for thought on sorting your priorities or at the very least caused you to chuckle over the fact that either yourself or someone you know has thrown out one of these lines in the past.
