Trailer for new poker movie ALL IN released

clapboard-black-1When I first clicked on the link to the trailer for the new poker documentary All In: The Poker Movie that appeared in my Facebook inbox I thought to myself, “this movie has been in production way too long!” considering some of the players being interviewed and spouting their opinions about poker included some of the most hated people in poker, Howard Lederer, Chris Ferguson, and Annie Duke -there was even an Epic Poker League segment.

However, for those of you who didn’t make to the end of the 2-minute plus trailer for the Movie All In, you missed an Easter Egg of sorts, as the trailer ends with the ominous quote from Howard Lederer who looks directly into the camera and says the following: “Once again; you know; the hero of the sotry was also cheating. Um, and that’s just not; the heroes in poker don’t cheat.”

The movie is set to hit theaters in late march, and despite its 2009 release (when it won an award at the CineVegas Film Festival) the movie seems to have been updated with the recent events that have transpired in the poker world (Black Friday and the Full Tilt Poker fiasco). Although it’s doubtful that the recent fall of the Epic Poker League will be covered in the film.

It seems from the trailer that the vast majority of the film will focus on the lead-up to and the poker boom itself.

Other people appearing in the trailer range from Matt Damon (who became a poker legend for his lead role in the movie Rounders where he played Mike McDermott), former WSOP Champions Scotty Nguyen and Phil Hellmuth, current poker megastars like Vanessa Rousso and Daniel Negreanu, feel-good players like Chris Moneymaker and Dennis Phillips, and cutaways to Amarillo Slim and Stu Ungar.

As Matt Damon says at one point in the trailer, “There is something cool about being good at poker!”

It will be interesting to see how this movie is received by a general audience as it looks to deal with some of the more complicated areas of the poker world. Remember, even the cult-hit Rounders was considered a box office flop and that movie had one of the greatest ensemble casts ever assembled! Matt Damon, Edward Norton, John Turturro, John Malkovich, Famke Jansen, Gretchen Mol, Martin Landeau,  Michael Rispoli, Lenny Clarke, and of course Johnny “F***ing” Chan!

All In: The Poker Movie has already won an award for Best Documentary at the CineVegas Film Festival in 2009; a not too surprising award considering the film’s motif and where the film festival was held.
