Day 5 play at the Doyle Brunson Classic Championships moved at a rapid pace with players quickly busting out of the tournament one after the other.  The televised final table should now have plenty of time to focus on the final six players left standing.  Those final players feature three frequent World Poker Tour final table participants, two young online pros and a member of the World Series of Poker November Nine.

After a mere six hands of play, the first elimination of the day was decided.  Evan McNiff raised pre-flop to 75,000 and Bill Klein wasted no time re-raising to 215,000.  McNiff then re-raised all in and Klein called him.  Klein showed J-J and McNiff showed A-K.  Klein was sent to the rail in 18th place ($57,635) when the board was shown K-9-2-7-8.  Next to fall was Ben Tollerene who went out in 17th place ($57,635).

Hoyt Corkins eliminated the next victim, Tom Pniak in 16th place ($57,635).  Martin DeKnijff moved all in holding A-J with Clonie Gowen moving all in over the top from the small blind holding Q-Q.  Jack Wu then called from the big blind holding A-Q though Gowen had both players covered.  The board read 6-5-2-2-10 which eliminated DeKnijff in 15th place and Wu in 14th.

Confusion ensued though regarding the elimination order for places 16-14.  Officials then reviewed the tapes and determined that Pniak’s hand was still in progress when the shuffle started at the other table.  They ruled that all three players would share 14th place and chop the prize money which averaged for each player $67,255.

The next several players to fall were Nick Schulman who was sent to the rail in 13th place ($72.060), Brett Richey in 12th place ($72,060), Robert Mizrachi eliminated in 11th place ($72,060) and Clonie Gowen who made her way to the door in 10th place ($86,470).

Mike “The Mouth” Matusow found his tournament at stake when he re-raised with A-Q against Justin Young who raised with A-K.  The board came K-Q-7-J-J, sealing Matusow’s fate in ninth place ($100,880).  Out in eighth place ($115,295) was Ben Straate followed by Joe McGowan who opted to move all in from the big blind holding 4-4 against Chino Rheem who held 9-9.  The board read A-A-5-6-8 which offered McGowan nothing but the door and seventh place ($165,735) and just shy of the final table action.
