11 poker free agents were added to the list of unsponsored poker players yesterday when UB Poker released all 10 of their sponsored players and Absolute Poker let Trishelle Cannetella, their sole sponsored player, go. So now the question is: What’s next for these players?
The Poker Players
- Joe Sebok
My guess is that Joe Sebok has had his fill of poker sponsorships and will likely go back to working on his other poker ventures. Unfortunately, the one thing that made Sebok, who is a solid but unspectacular poker player, a high-priced sponsored pro was his reputation which has taken a major hit thanks to his UB employment -some people will simply never forgive him for joining UB Poker.
- Prahlad Friedman
If Friedman was soured on poker sponsorships before seeing his contract with UB Poker terminated less than 6-months in, I can only imagine how he feels about them now! Considering his UB payments likely were made to his poker account there, it would appear the UB Poker has now robbed him twice, not to mention chipping away at his reputation through association. I don’t see Prahlad signing with another site anytime in the near future, and if he does my guess is that will be with very little fanfare.
- Eric “BaseBaldy” Baldwin
The 2009 Card Player Magazine Player of the Year has posted back-to-back $1.5 million years and is in my opinion the most likely Team UB player to be picked up by another online poker site.
- Adam “roothlus” Levy, Brandon Cantu, and Bryan Devonshire
Levy is a solid player but will likely not be in demand in a post-Black Friday poker world in the US.
Cantu has the most pizzazz of the three but I doubt this will be enough to earn him another sponsorship in the near future.
Devonshire is in the same boat as Levy, but does have Cardrunners to fall back on, where he is a poker instructor.
The Personalities
- Tiffany Michelle, Maria Ho, and Trishelle Cannetella
With all three ladies hitting the free agency market at the same time there is a possibility that they will land at another site as a package deal -or even Maria Ho and Tiffany Michelle, minus Trishelle, as the two are practically inseparable.
- “Hollywood” Dave Stann
Hollywood Dave might have a chance of landing at an online Poker Room that also has a casino, but this is an unlikely occurrence at a non-US Poker Room.
- Scott Ian
Ian’s future in online poker is about as unpredictable as his more famous music career.
