Day 2 of the World Poker Tour Southern Poker Championship got under way with a large field of 175 players with the goal of narrowing that number to 27 players and making it to the money. Due to the shear size of the field, most thought it might take a while to work through the players but no one anticipated the 16 hours marathon that ensued. Play got under way at noon EST and didn’t finish for the day until just after 4am EST.
The hand of the day happend to be the one that also burst the bubble. Hand for hand play was going strong when Mike Leah raised in late position and prompting Allen Carter to put him all in from the big blind. After mulling over the decision for a while, Leah finally decided to make the call and showed his hand Ad Ks. Carter then slowly turned over his hand which was dominated Kc Qd. As it turns out, it didn’t matter because the board ran out Jd 9h 4s 10d 8h, giving Carter the nut straight, bursting the bubble and sending Leah packing in one fell swoop. Some of the more notable eliminations from Day 2 included Keven "Stammdog" Stammen, Mike "GoLeafsGoEh" Leah, Danny Wong, Allen Kessler, Paul "UCLABRUINZ" Smith, Clonie Gowen and David Singer.
