There was a lot happening yesterday at the World Series of Poker, so let’s get right to the updates.

Event #2: $50k Players Championship

We’re just a single day away from crowning the $50k Players Championship winner, and heading into the final day of the tournament there is still a Mizrachi sitting atop the leader-board. However, it was Mike “The Grinder” Mizrachi who led after day 3, but now it’s Robert Mizrachi at the top after day 4 -Mike is still in the hunt, currently in 5th place.

The official chip counts heading into today’s final table are as follows:

  • Robert Mizrachi -3.125 million chips
  • David Baker - 3.095 million chips
  • John Juanda - 2.62 million chips
  • Michael Thuritz - 2.3 million chips
  • Michael Mizrachi - 2.175 million chips
  • Vladimir Schmelev - 1.925 million chips
  • Daniel Alaei - 1.705 million chips
  • David Oppenheim - 460,000 chips

Unlike the first four days of the tournament that saw a revolving mix of 8 different poker variants, the final table will be played exclusively as No Limit Holdem.
Event #3: $1k No Limit Holdem

While it took the $50k event 4 days of play to whittle the starting field of 116 to 8, the $1k championship needed only two days to shed just over 4,300 players! The remaining 41 players will be back in action today, and will play down to the final table before the action halts for the night.

There are still a handful of pros left in the event; most notably Card Player Magazine’s Player of the Year and UB Poker sponsored pro Eric Baldwin, who is currently sitting in 8th place.

Event #4: $1,500 Omaha 8

The O8 event will crown a new champion this year -after back-to-back wins by Thang Luu in 2008 and 2009-and there is a strong professional presence among the remaining 26 players. Some of the best poker players in the world are vying for the WSOP bracelet including, Dan Heimiller, Shawn Buchanan, Ylon Schwartz, Jeff Madsen, and Huck Seed, which could make for a very stacked final table!

The winner of the event will take home over $230k and more importantly for the pros, a WSOP bracelet.

Event #5: $1,500 No Limit Holdem

The only event that started yesterday was the $1,500 NLHE tournament, which ended up with 2,092 entrants. The three-day event is down to 243 players heading into the second day of action, where the remaining players will likely play down to around 25 before calling it quits for the day.

The tournament leader-board looks like a who’s who of online poker: Led by online superstar and Brunson 10 member Chris Moorman who is looking for his WSOP bracelet and currently sits in 3rd place. Moorman is joined on the leaderboard by fellow online Poker Pros Christian Harder, Adam Levy, Shaun Deeb and Matt Stout, all of whom are in the top 20.

Mark Seif, Dewey Tomko, Antonio Esfandiari, Vitaly Lunkin, Kathy Liebert, Iassac Haxton and David Sklansky are among some of the other big names still left in the field.
