  • Published July 21st, 2010 in WSOP

In this series I will take a look at the backgrounds and resumes’ of the nine poker players who managed to weave their way through, and outlast 7,310 opponents, and make it to the final table of the 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event.

The final table for the 2010 WSOP will reconvene on November 9th  where the remaining nine players will play down to just two, who will then return the following day, November 10th, to declare the 2010 WSOP Champion.

The nine remaining players are:

  1. Jonathan Duhamel - 65,975,000 chips
  2. John Dolan - 46,250,000 chips
  3. Joseph Cheong - 23,525,000 chips
  4. John Racener - 19,050,000 chips
  5. Matthew Jarvis - 16,700,000 chips
  6. Fillipo Candio - 16,400,000 chips
  7. Mike Mizrachi - 14,450,000 chips
  8. Soi Nguyen - 9,650,000 chips
  9. Jason Senti - 7,625,000 chips

In this article I will present you with the resume of John Racener, one of the most experienced poker players remaining despite being only 24 years-old!

Just after turning 21 Racener entered a tournament in Atlantic City and finished 3rd, pocketing a cool $103k. Two weeks later he won a $1,000 buy-in tournament at the Bellagio, picking up $27,635 in the process, and the rest as they is history!

Racener is one of the most prolific tournament poker players , and has cashed at the WSOP 11-times in his short career -8 of those cashes coming in the last 2-years.

His one big win came in 2007 at the WSOP Circuit Series in Atlantic City where he won the Championship worth $379K. Racener has also finished 8th, 12th, and 24th in World Poker Tour Championship Events, and the 2010 World Series of Poker Final Table will represent his 4th 6-figure score -which will likely be a 7-figure when play resumes on November 9th. In all, Racener has $1,180,804 in career tournament winnings.

Amazingly, Betfair has Racener at 6/1 to win the Main Event, with the less experienced, and barely larger stack, Joseph Cheong at 3/1, and Matthew Jarvis with pretty much zero experience and a shorter-stack at 7/1. Racener seems like a really good bet at the moment.

Racener will be one of the most sought after sponsorships for the final table: At the moment it would appear the PokerStars has Jonathan Duhamel and Jason Senti locked up, while Full Tilt Poker has Mike “The Grinder” Mizrachi and John Dolan pegged for sponsorships. Since each site is limited to just 3 sponsored players at the final table Racener -who wore the Full Tilt logo during the November Nine picture-and Joseph Cheong seem to be the two players who will garner the most interest from the Big 2 -PokerStars and Full Tilt.
