  • Published July 21st, 2010 in WSOP

In this series I will take a look at the backgrounds and resumes’ of the nine poker players who managed to weave their way through, and outlast 7,310 opponents, and make it to the final table of the 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event.

The final table for the 2010 WSOP will reconvene on November 9th  where the remaining nine players will play down to just two, who will then return the following day, November 10th, to declare the 2010 WSOP Champion.

The nine remaining players are:

  1. Jonathan Duhamel - 65,975,000 chips
  2. John Dolan - 46,250,000 chips
  3. Joseph Cheong - 23,525,000 chips
  4. John Racener - 19,050,000 chips
  5. Matthew Jarvis - 16,700,000 chips
  6. Fillipo Candio - 16,400,000 chips
  7. Mike Mizrachi - 14,450,000 chips
  8. Soi Nguyen - 9,650,000 chips
  9. Jason Senti - 7,625,000 chips

In this installment I’ll be taking a look at the achievements of Matthew Jarvis, who currently sits in 5th place heading into November 9th’s Final Table.

While not very accomplished as a live tournament player -in the two years prior to his Main Event run Jarvis had earned roughly $40,000 playing poker tournaments-Jarvis has had some success in the online poker world and according to Card Player Magazine has lifetime earnings of $295,280. His biggest score in a live poker tournament prior to the 2010 WSOP Main Event was an 11th place finish in the 2009 British Columbia Poker Championship worth $20,237. Jarvis’s biggest online payday was when he chopped the PokerStars Sunday Warm-up for a cool $103,000 in August of 2009.

Amazingly, at 25 years of age Jarvis is one of the elder statesmen of the November Nine, but as we all know about poker experience: It’s not about age; it’s about how many hands you have under your belt! So we’ll see what kind of experience the Canadian poker player will bring to the final table -although Jarvis says the word “pro” and he don’t exactly go together.

Jarvis will also have Jamie Gold type motivation when the tournament restarts; his father was diagnosed with cancer shortly before the WSOP began, and Jarvis almost opted out of going. In 2006, eventual winner Jamie Gold’s father was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig ’s disease.

Jarvis was one of the seven players who donned Full Tilt Poker gear during the November Nine photo-op, but it’s likely he’ll find himself playing under a different banner in November, as each site is limited to sponsoring just three players at the final table. I’d expect Jarvis to land either in the UB or perhaps Cake Poker/Doyles Room camp.
