Since I’ve already done an in-depth update on the $25k 6-Handed No Limit Holdem tournament this recap will focus on the $10k PLO Championship that is also finishing up today. In the other action at the WSOP yesterday the $2,500 NLHE tournament got underway, and Brendan Taylor outlasted Poker Pros Jonathan Little, Mike Schneider and Terrence Chan to win his 1st WSOP bracelet.
One other note from yesterday’s action was Jamie Gold finishing up Day 1 of the $2,500 No Limit Holdem tournament in 4th place. Gold has been basically MIA in the poker world -at least when it comes to paydays-since his improbable win at the 2006 WSOP Main Event, where he captured the $12 million first prize: Still a poker record. Gold has kept his stack steady thus far on Day 2 of the event, but many people have been on the rise and he’s dipped back to about 40th place.
But the talk of the WSOP yesterday was the PLO Championship. The high-stakes Poker Pros might be in for another anxiety filled day and sleepless night with Tom ‘durrrr’ Dwan heading into the final day of play in the $10k PLO Championship with the chip-lead. After the huge scare earlier at the2010 World Series of Poker the poker world learned about the millions of dollars in side-action durrrr and the other big name Poker Pros have riding on the outcome of the WSOP events.
As I write this the tournament just went on break, and Tom Dwan just skyrocketed back into the chip-lead, after doubling-up Dave Ulliott just moments before. There are 25 players remaining in the tournament including Blair Rodman, Jason Mercier, Daniel Alaei, Dave Ulliott, Phil Hellmuth, Jason Lester, and Tony Cousineau, but all eyes will be on the man referred to as durrrr, Tom Dwan, from here on out.
The way the tournament is shaping up it will likely be going into the wee hours of the morning before a winner is declared, and the prize-money -which is substantial-is not the reason players will be railing the tournament. Rumors abound regarding the amount of money durrr will earn should he pick up a WSOP bracelet in 2010 -estimates put it in the $10-15 million range-and as just about every poker player is learning after his runner-up finish earlier in the 2010 WSOP, and now his deep run in the PLO Championship, it’s probably not a good idea to bet against this guy.
Make sure you check back for tomorrow’s update to see if durrrr pulled off his 1st WSOP win in one of the last events of the tournament series.
