With so much action happening at the Rio I’ve decided to break up my daily reports into two pieces. This report will focus on the two events that crowned a champion yesterday, whereas Part 2 will update you on the tournaments still in progress.
Event #3: $1k NLHE
After five grueling days of poker and 4,344 bust-outs, Canadian Aadam Daya has won his first World Series of Poker bracelet –and the $625k in prize-money also constituted his first ever cash in a WSOP tournament! Daya describes himself as a casual player, and works as a business analyst during the day.
Daya entered the final table as the chip-leader, and in a rare poker feat was able to hold on to the top spot and win the tournament. After the win, Daya told Nolan Dalla, ““I really think I got pretty lucky to get through so many players. I was fortunate and I played well, but I also got lucky at the right times… I am sure I might play a few more events. But right now, I just want to enjoy this.”
Final Table payouts:
- Aadam Daya — $625,872
- Deepak Bhatt –$385,106
- Gabe Costner –$279,327
- William Mark Davis –$206,904
- Nicholas Mitchell –$154,425
- Corey Brown –$116,141
- Isaac Settle –$88,025
- Dash Dudley –$67,221
- Rich Rice –$51,735
Tournament notes:
- The massive player field will go down as the 6th largest poker tournament in history
- Father/Son combo Rich and Irving Rice finished 9th and 10th respectively
- Men Nguyen picked up his 66th WSOP cash, good for 2nd place on the all-time list (9 back of Phil Hellmuth.
- Event #5: $1,500 NLHE
Yesterday I singled out Praz Bansi as the player to watch in this event and English poker pro didn’t disappoint. Bansi bested a large field of over 2,000 players to capture his second World Series of Poker bracelet, and the $515k payday pushed him over the $1 million mark in career WSOP earnings (Bansi has over $2.5 million in total career earnings).
Bansi also joins Chris Bjorin and John Paul Kelley as the only English players with two WSOP bracelets; a fact not lost on the Londoner when asked which bracelet means more, #1 or #2: “That’s a tough one. I have not really thought about it yet, but I think this one means a bit more. There are quite a few guys in the UK who have one gold bracelet. But two is a rare thing.”
Final Table payouts:
- Praz Bansi –$515,501
- Vincent Jacques –$320,913
- Calvin Kordus –$223,069
- David Tuthill –$160,650
- Tomer Berda –$117,416
- Donald Offerd –$86,858
- Hugh Bell –$65,097
- David Sands –$57,221
- Kyle Knecht –$37,943
Tournament notes:
Humberto Brenes moved into 6th place all-time with his 56th cash (breaking a tie with TJ Cloutier)
