WSOP schedule unveiled: 2 One Drop events, change to Ladies event and more

The 2013 World Series of Poker is shaping up to be one for the record-books. Caesar’s Entertainment unveiled their 2013 WSOP schedule on Thursday and there were a few surprises in the press release and tournament schedule PDF. The biggest surprise for most poker players was the addition of a second One Drop event, a $111,111 buy-in High Roller event to go along with the Little One for One Drop and $1,111 buy-in event with unlimited rebuys.  These two tournaments will act as place-holders of sorts for the Big One for One Drop $1,000,000 buy-in tournament which will return to the WSOP in 2014.

Another interesting, somewhat comical change was the WSOP FINALLY figuring out a way to keep men from entering the Ladies Tournament. Last year the WSOP was hoping a new law in Nevada would allow them to bar male players from taking part in the tournament, but just before the WSOP their legal team dissuaded them from disallowing male players. However, this year the WSOP got a little cleverer, deciding to up the buy-in to $10,000 BUT give women a $9,000 discount. So if any men want to play in the event this time around they will have to pay 10x the amount of a woman –so much for the EV of the event eh?

The tournament series will run from May 29 through July 16 and will feature a total of 62 bracelet events along with two non-bracelet events, one brand new, a $5,000 Open Faced Chinese Poker tournament, and one a holdover from last year’s WSOP, a $560 Bracelet Bounty tournament. The Rio will also hold daily Deepstacks events and satellites into WSOP events running virtually around the clock.

The 2013 WSOP will also feature the first Turbo tournament in WSOP history, a two-day $1,000 buy-in No Limit Holdem event, as well as the return of the rebuy tournament, as the Little One for One Drop will be the first rebuy event at the WSOP since 2008.

For the high-rollers who find any event under a $10,000 buy-in “insignificant”, there are plenty of tournaments to choose from this time around: In addition to the $111,111 One Drop High-Roller tournament, the 2013 WSOP will also feature a $10,000 Heads-Up No Limit Holdem tournament, a $10,000 PLO tournament, a $25,000 Six-Max No Limit Holdem event, the $50,000 Poker Players Championship, and of course the $10,000 Main Event –and for some of the top pros I’m assuming the Little One for One Drop will see players tossing in well over $10,000 in rebuys and add-ons!
