After dominating play on Saturday, David Bach is quietly cementing his place as one of the top tournament players in the world at the 2011 World Series of Poker. The 2009 $50k HORSE Champion hasn’t added to his bracelet total on 2011, but he has finished 14th, 2nd and 3rd in tournaments as well as being the chip-leader in the WSOP Main Event with just 142 players remaining.
Like most players who have found themselves still in the running for the $8.7 million first-prize, Bach has caught his fair share of cards to get to where he is, including making a very bad play against Vanessa Rousso on Day 4 -but hit a straight to best her set-and yesterday Bach was seemingly coolered by Max Heinzelmann holding KK vs. the German’s AA, only to make a winning flush. Heinzelmann laid perhaps the sickest beat of the year on Shaun Deeb earlier in the Main Event when he 6-bet all-in with A6 only to find himself up against AA -obviously I wouldn’t be telling the story if a 6 on the flop and a second 6 on the river didn’t give Heinzelmann the win.
But Bach isn’t the only big name player still in the hunt for WSOP glory. Amongst the remaining players are a number of high-profile poker names like Allen Cunningham, Erick Lindgren, Sorel Mizzi, Jean-Robert Bellande, Eli Elezra, Ben Lamb, JP Kelly, and 2010 November Niner Joseph Cheong.
There are also a slew of top Internet poker players and lesser known, but highly successful, Poker Pros like Sami “LarsLuzak” Kelopuro, Aaron “AEJones” Jones, Sebastian Ruthenberg, Lars Bonding, Bryan “Devo” Devonshire, Vladimir “Beyne” Geshkenbein, Phil Collins, Sam Barnahrt, Per Linde, Tyler Bonkowski, Tom Koral, David Barter, Tony Hachem, Peter Gelencser, Christian “CHarder30″ Harder, David “Doc” Sands, Andrew “Foucault” Brokos, Jens Kyllonnen, Chris DeMaci, Frank Sinopoli, Minh Nguyen, Rupert Elder, John Esposito, Peter “Nordberg” Feldman, Bryan Colin, Amanda Musemeci, and Steve Brecher.
Day 6 will begin at Noon local time, and once again the field will be playing four or five levels depending on the speed of the action.
My guess is either table 326, with Bryan Devonshire, Sorel Mizzi, and Tyler Bonkowski or Table 330 with JP Kelly and Ben Lamb will be in the running for the featured table.
Here is a look at the Top 10 chip counts heading into Day 6:
