One of the more interesting tournaments got underway yesterday, the $25,000 buy-in 6-max No Limit holdem event, which Daniel Negreanu expects to be a coming out for party for a number of big-time online poker players. Also in action were the Limit Holdem Shootout, and the Triple Chance No Limit Holdem which played down to the final table.
Event #51: $3,000 Triple Chance No Limit Holdem
Heading into the final table today all eyes will be on poker pro Will Failla, as he has a great chance to pick up his 1st WSOP victory. Failla heads into the day with a healthy 1.3 million in chips, not far behind the 1.933 million of chip-leader Jon Eaton.
Event #52: $25,000 6-Handed No Limit Holdem
The anticipation is finally over, and World Series of Poker officials must have been ecstatic over the solid turnout of 191 players. At $25k each, the entrants created a prize-pool of over $4.5 million, a number only the $50k buy-in Players Championship has surpassed this year.
With a first prize of $1.3 million this is likely to be one of the tournaments where the prize-money is significant enough to over-ride most prop bets the big boys have going -notice I said most, I’m talking to you Phil Ivey and Tom Dwan!
With Day 2 underway there are a few well known Poker Pros ripping it up in the tournament, one of which is Daniel Negreanu who is currently sitting in 3rd place with 54 players remaining as I write this. Just ahead of Negreanu is online superstar Dan “djk123″ Kelly, who is competing for a spot in the Brunson 10 at Doyles Room Poker.
Who else is left in the field? How about Carlos Mortensen (4th place), Isaac Haxton (7th place), Jared Jaffe (9th place), Abe Mosseri (12th place), Barry Greenstein (13th place), Scott Seiver (17th place), Justin Bonomo (20th place), David Sands -who is also in the Brunson 10 competition (24th place), Phil Ivey (25th place), Nick Schulman (27th place), Freddy Deeb (30th place), John Duthie (31st place), Frank Kasella and his two WSOP bracelets in 2010 (36th place), Eric Seidel (38th place), Vanessa Rousso (39th place), Beth Shak (42nd place), Hoyt Corkins (44th place), and a slew of other Poker Pros.
Event #53: $1,500 Limit Holdem Shootout
548 players took to the tables in the Limit Holdem Shootout tournament, and now we are down to just 54. Still alive in the Shootout style tournament are Theo Tran, John Esposito and Jonathan Little; along with my new favorite poker name -sorry Chip Jett-Dash Dudley! There are a number of other big names still in the hunt as well: Marcel Luske, Cornell Cimpan, Nam Le, Terrence Chan, Yevgeniy Timoshenko, Steve Vanzadelhoff, Barry Shulman and Chau Giang.
