Last week we brought you the news that bwin.party may have found a potential buyer for the OnGame Poker Network, Amaya Gaming Group Inc. bwin.party has been shopping the network (which is basically a duplicate product considering the company also owns the Party Poker platform) and seemed to have a buyer in the form of Shuffle Master –a deal that eventually fell through– leaving the door open for other suitors which is when Amaya swooped in.
According to PokerFuse.com, the deal will see Amaya Gaming Group cough-up in the neighborhood of $6.5 million to $8 million to purchase the OnGame Poker Network. The final number is a mere 25% of what Shuffle Master was rumored to be willing to pay, and the decision to settle for such a small amount flies in the face of what bwin.party stated from the outset; that they would be shopping the OnGame Network but would hold out until they got the right price. bWin recently stated, “The sale of surplus assets, including Ongame, remains a core part of bwin.party’s strategy. Bwin.party is re-engaging with other third parties that have expressed an interest in acquiring Ongame. bwin.party will make a further announcement as and when appropriate.”
The declining worth of the OnGame Network is likely due to the ever-changing regulations, legislation, and chaotic online poker environment in both the United States and Europe. The lengthy process of selling the OnGame Network was likely another reason that the price continued to drop, as the network itself has lost players (players were under the impression that the network was up for sale and the future uncertain) and suitors realized that interest in the company was not as high as originally expected.
According to industry rumors and reports from bwin.party, bWin Poker players will be migrated to the Party Poker platform by the end of the year, and then the remaining players on the network will remain where they are as the new owners of the OnGame Network take over.
It’s unclear what Amaya’s plans for the OnGame Network are, and whether or not they will continue to even offer real-money online poker games or if they are looking solely at the software the site uses, and will be taking the company into the US in the form of social gaming or even perhaps in a partnership role with a potential Nevada online casino.
