Jake Cody scores two British Poker Awards

Last Weekend’s Poker in the Park extravaganza was highlighted by the British Poker Awards where poker players, poker personalities, and poker businesses were honored for their accomplishments and contributions to the British poker scene.

After a number of awards were given out, the crowd eagerly awaited the announcement of the crown jewel of the awards’ ceremony, the Player of the Year award, won by recent Triple Crown winner Jake Cody -Cody also won the tournament Player of the Year award as well. The Player of the Year award was not open to public voting, and was instead decided by a select panel of judges -the Lifetime Achievement award was also voted on by a select panel.

Cody’s last two years on the tournament poker trail has included an EPT Championship, a WPT Championship, and his first career WSOP bracelet, not to mention a number of cashes and final tables that have brought his career tournament earnings to $2,670,443 -not too shabby for a player in his early 20’s!

Cody wasn’t the only UK poker player to take home some hardware at the BPA’s, as a slew of players were winners in a number of different categories that encompassed the entire poker scene. Amongst the players who won BPA’s were Chris Moorman, Sam Trickett, Richard Ashby, and JP Kelly, as well as poker personalities and contributors like Neil Channing, Jonh Duthie, Victoria Coren, and Kara Scott.

With the European poker tournament schedule in full swing very few of the winners were on hand to receive their awards, but with famous UK comedienne and TV personality Lucy Cohen handling the MC duties, the show was lively, full of laughs, and entertaining. The fact that the lovely Kara Scott was on hand to receive her Poker Personality of the Year award didn’t hurt either!
